I grew up riding the Caribbean waves and hanging out in my brother’s surfboard factory, where I discovered the magic of collaborating with a shaper to bring the perfect board to life.
Sergio Martins, Born in Madeira and raised in Venezuela, Sergio Martins is an experienced shaper with over 30 years of professional surfing and industry expertise. Starting his journey in San Diego, California, Sergio honed his skills working with renowned surfboard factories like Rusty Surfboards. In 2015, he launched his own brand, Serch Surfboards, combining craftsmanship with his deep understanding of surfing.
As a former Venezuelan National Champion and a coach for the Venezuelan national surfing team, Sergio brings a unique perspective to shaping, blending competitive insight with artistic precision. Now based between Portugal and Sri Lanka, Sergio handcrafts surfboards tailored to surfers’ unique styles and levels. His mobile shaping room in Portugal and local-material-based boards in Sri Lanka reflect his dedication to sharing the art of shaping and making surfing accessible to all.

The Journey of Serch Surfboards
From Venezuela to California, Portugal, and Sri Lanka:
Sergio Martins grew up in Venezuela, immersed in surfing and competition, while learning the art of shaping from his brother. As a professional surfer, he balanced riding waves with understanding the craftsmanship behind every board.
In California, Sergio refined his skills at renowned surfboard factories like Rusty Surfboards, gaining expertise in shaping and sanding. In 2015, he launched Serch Surfboards to combine his deep understanding of surfing with precision craftsmanship.
Relocating to Portugal, he founded the Surfing Room, a mobile shaping space designed to share the art of surfboard making with the local community.
Now based in Sri Lanka, Sergio is reinventing Serch Surfboards by exploring sustainable materials to create affordable boards for the region.
